With it’s gorgeous waterfront, energetic nightlife, vibrant cafes, and ‘hidden-gem’ bars, Wellington isn’t short of personality. Its strong winds give it the nickname ‘Windy Wellington’ but don’t let that put you off because you really “can’t beat Welly on a good day.”
Christchurch | Ōtautahi
This flat-structured city is located on the east coast of the South Island. In 2010 and 2011 many of the historic buildings were destroyed by earthquakes, however, the city continues to be restored to this day. When exploring Christchurch, you will find an abundance of gardens, parks, and forests. Head to the International Antarctic Centre, Botanic Gardens, or go for a hike.
Queenstown | Tāhuna
Located in the South Island of New Zealand, Queenstown is known for it’s beautiful mountain scenery, and its adventurous activities. Queenstown could see you at the world’s first, and most-famous bungy jump, jet boating through the white-water rapids of the Shotover River, skiing in the snowy mountains, or simply wondering at the spectacular views from the cable car.

The Coromandel suburb, located closer to the top of the North Island, is a popular tourist attraction and summer holiday spot. Here you can escape the city lifestyle and indulge in the ‘beach paradise’ environment.The Coromandel is a perfect spot for peace and relaxation, listening to the gentle waves at the beach by Cathedral Cove, or if you’re wanting something more active, hiking, kayaking, and skydiving are an option.
Marlborough Sounds | Te Tauihu-o-te-Waka
Made up of a collection of ancient sunken river valleys, Marlborough Sounds is a must-see. Sitting at the top of the South Island, you’ll have the option to cruise around the inlets and marvel at the scenic forested hills, or hike along one of the many tracks in the area, such as the Queen Charlotte Track. With over 50 reserves, you might be lucky enough to spot seals, tuataras, kiwis, and other native bird life.

The Wairarapa region brings rural vibes, with a collection of small service towns in the area. Located in the North Island, heading to one of the many wineries on a wine tasting tour, visiting Stonehenge, cycling, or going for walks are just a few of the activities you can indulge in, all while enjoying the serenity of the country-side.
Rotorua
Rotorua has a rich history and is renowned for ‘that smell’ belonging to its geothermal activity. Located in the centre of the North Island, Rotorua offers the chance to explore Whakarewarewa, home to the Living Moāri Village, and Te Puia with its bubbling mud pools and 30m-tall Pohutu Geyser, which erupts frequently every day. Anywhere you go you’ll find hidden geothermal activity, and need to adjust your senses to the ‘delicate’ smell of sulphur.
